Floral Bridesmaid Dresses

There are lots of different styles to choose from when planning your wedding. If you have a spring or early summer wedding, then floral bridesmaid dresses would be a great fit for the occasion.

floral bridesmiad dressesWhile it’s true that many women prefer solid colors for their bridesmaids, flower prints can add a lot of youth and energy to your wedding’s flavor. Floral dresses were very popular in the 1950s, but slowly lost prominence as more people were drawn to solid colors. In particular, the solid black and solid white styles became some of the most popular designs for bridesmaids.

Today, it’s much more common for the young girls in a wedding to wear flower prints, but if you’re having an outdoor ceremony in the spring or early summer, there’s no reason why you can’t have all of your bridesmaids wearing beautiful flower dresses.

The largest thing to consider with these tips of dresses is the neck cut and sleeve length. Sleeveless dresses are ubiquitous in the United States because they bring a lot of youthful energy to the outfit. In fact, sleeves would look quite out of place on floral bridesmaid dresses — and the bridesmaids would probably be too hot! So go with sleeveless unless there’s a big reason for adding sleeves to your bridesmaid outfits. Also, if arms need to be covered, you could try elbow-length white gloves as a classy and classic alternative.

Letting the maids pick their own cuts could cause problems in some groups, so at the first sign of an issue, choose a high-cut dress for all of them. There are bigger things to worry about when you’re getting ready for your wedding!

Choosing colors for your floral bridesmaid dresses

The classic wedding colors are white, yellow or light blue and all 3 of these colors will go well with a floral print. Generally speaking, a white dress with colored floral prints will be easier to wear than one that’s light blue or yellow. If your bridesmaids have trouble looking good in blue or yellow, go with the classic white.

Once the dresses are picked, it’s important to match your bridesmaids’ bouquets with the colors of their dresses. It’s a little cheesy to have their flowers be exactly the same as the flowers on their dresses, but using the same shade can be a great touch.

Flower prints for flower girls?

In some weddings, the flower girls have a dress that is similar to the bridesmaids, although less detailed and extravagant. If you go with flower prints on the maids, then you may want to consider a plainer dress for the flower girl(s). Too many flowers can take the focus off of other parts of the ceremony – like you!

Finally, because flower prints peaked in popularity a few decades ago, it’s possible to find them at real cheap prices in vintage and second hand stores. The challenge is finding more than one! But, if you do find a dress that suits your wedding theme perfectly, remember that you can bring it to any competent seamstress and have patterns made and copies built.
